Cardboard boxes
The first patent registration of corrugated cardboard was made in England in 1856 by Edward Healy and Edward Allen. At that time corrugated cardboard was used for hatbands.
In 1874 Oliver Long took out a patent for single well corrugated cardboard and one year later, in 1875, Henri Norris began the production of twin wall. The first patent in the USA was taken out in 1889 and the very first cardboard box was manufactured in the USA in 1895.
Cardboard boxes are industrially prefabricated boxes, primarily used for packaging goods and materials. Specialists in industry seldom use the term cardboard because it does not denote a specific material.
The term cardboard may refer to a variety of heavy paper-like materials, including card stock, corrugated fiberboard or paperboard. The meaning of the term may depend on the locale, contents, construction, and personal choice.
